Function: post-expo masterplan
Site location: Milan
Institution: Politecnico di Milano
In order to proceed with this task, we analyzed the territory, especially the surroundings of the site. The idea was to suggest guidelines, which can be used in order to promote the site, taking advantage of the Expo event, developing and improving the Expo plot as well as a neighborhood.
The Post-Expo is not only an opportunity to use the infrastructures that will remain inside the site, but also a chance to plan policies and provide tools for the existing urban situation surrounding the Expo, trying to enhance the existent values of the areas around the site.
Instead of limiting the Post-Expo master plan to its own site, the aim is to support and improve the nearby area, providing them with new quality spaces, creating a new urbanity.
The Expo site will become a generator of Flows for the whole area, stimulating the circulation inside it, between the site and its neighborhoods as well as direct interaction between different neighbors: not only physical connections, but also conceptual ones, supporting cooperation between the different players.
In order to strengthen the base of the flows, points of interest were planned along the three main paths inside the site. Providing the Expo site with new functions will build a strong and effective base for the flows, promoting the collaboration between the surrounding areas.
Keeping the main infrastructure of the site, the project is developed on three axes. Each axis is characterized by a specific theme and links the actors, improving the physical connection and creating a network not only for the actors involved but also for the users of the area, linking, in this way, the site with the rest of the city.
